In a country of little more than five million people, there are estimated to be two or three million saunas; that’s around one for every household. Enjoying sauna at private house, summer cottage or in public shared sauna is not a luxury for Fins, part of daily life and socialising with friends. Lake side sauna complex with modern saunas and traditional smoke sauna will give you great chance to meet locals and enjoy sauna same as they do.
Our shared excursion starts with either an afternoon or evening pick-up from your city centre hotel and you will be taken to a selected sauna (there are several options depending on the season; subject to availability). Once at the venue, your guide will talk you through the sauna tradition in Finland and gives you a briefing of the sauna etiquette and instructions.
Once in, enjoy the purifying heat of the sauna by trying a “löyly”, a Finnish word for steam from the stove that is the spirit of the sauna. Top it off with a “vasta”, a bunch of birch twigs to comfortably whisk on your body to intensify the warmth.
